The Vought F4U Corsair was one of the historically great fighter aircraft of World War II. The RAF had its Spitfire, the USAAF its P-51 Mustang, the US its F6F Hellcat: the US Marines had their Corsair. Unlike its distinguished counterparts, however, the Corsair was still rolling off the production lines ten years after the first aircraft was delivered. This remarkable record for any combat aircraft - let alone a fighter - gives the Corsair a fair claim to the title not only of being the last piston-engined fighter in front line service but also of being the finest.

In this book Richard Abrams tells the remarkable story of a remarkable aircraft that saw service as a fighter and fighter-bomber with the Royal Navy, the Royal New Zealand Air Force and the French Aéronavale as well as the US Marine Corps and the US Navy. It served with distinction in World War Il and again in Korea.

In keeping with other titles in the highly successful lan Allan 'At War' series, Corsair at War has a host of hitherto unpublished photographs and personal stories covering all the Corsair's roles in all theatres of war. It will delight the veteran, the aircraft historian and the modeller alike.
