Ettore Sottsass presents the Collection Art de Cartier in a brilliant new manner, viewing the collection as a reflection of form and design, while understanding its function and relation with the surrounding space and the bodies it adorns. For this impressive project Ettore Sottsass has selected over 350 jewels, watches and accessories following his personal and intuitive taste forgoing epochs and fashion trends, and creates and highlights the ties amongst the materials, style and colour. To emphasize his vision, for each piece Sottsass creates a decorative element meant to contain the object as a shrine located in a cosmic space. Ettore Sottsass was born in Austria in 1917. As a design consultant for Olivetti where he stayed, for over 30 years he designed the first Italian electronic calculator and various typewriters such as Praxis and Valentine. In 1981 he formed the Memphis group, which soon became a symbol for ‘new design’ and a reference point for avant-garde work. His work is part of various permanent collections in museums around the world such as: Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
